ORGIVA
The town is situated in the heart of the Alpujarras region, surrounded by beautiful mountains and quaint villages. The area is a haven for walkers, and is popular for outdoor activities such as mountain-biking, horse-riding, skiing, kayaking, climbing, bird-watching, etc.
Orgiva is a 1-hour drive from Granada Airport (2 hours from Malaga and Almeria airports), and the coastal beaches of Salobrena and Motril are 30 minutes away. (Also, Almunecar, Nerja, Castell de Ferro can be reached within an hour). The City of Granada (with its magnificent Alhambra Palace) is a 40-minute drive, and the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort (Pradollano) is 90 minutes away.
Orgiva has a medical centre, 2 banks, a post office, excellent bars and restaurants, a variety of shops/supermarket, a Thursday market, an indoor market, 2 swimming pools, and a cinema. It is populated by approximately 5000 inhabitants, and though a typically busy, working Spanish town, is friendly, with English being understood in most shops, banks, bars, etc. Public transport around the region is very good.
